GEOMETRIC PATTERNS.
Photos A & B. If you study these photos you will observe the triangles formed by the figures.
The single triangle in photo A gives movement to the group all heading in the same direction.
There are two triangles formed in photo B. The first by the couple, the second by their shadows. A feeling of action is created.

BALANCE.
Photo A. Imagine these two couples are standing on a pair of scales, they are of the same pictorial weight, therefore this is an excellent example of Symmetrical balance. They are interacting, thus forming a unit.

Photo B. This is an example without symmetrical balance. The large head on the left is balanced somewhat by the smaller head on the right. This generally makes it more interestiing to the eye than a symmetrical balance.

Photo C. This is an example of symmetrical balance, but the photo is actually of two separate subjects. Two photos in one, as the subjects are not interacting.

Photos D. These are photos of couples where there is balance and interaction of the subjects.
